The Legacy of the MIER Group
Late Sh. H.L. Gupta and Mrs. Shanti Gupta are hailed as educational pioneers in Jammu and Kashmir. With exceptional dedication, innovative ideas, and a missionary zeal, they transformed the Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) from a modest beginning into a major educational institution. Founded in 1936 as Model Academy, the first private school in J&K, MIER has grown to encompass education from pre-school to post-doctoral levels.
Model Academy has produced distinguished alumni, including Dr. Jitender Singh, Member of Lok Sabha, General J.J. Singh, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Former Chief of the Indian Army, Dr. A.S. Anand, Former Chief Justice of India, and Admiral Arun Prakash, Former Chief of the Naval Staff of India.
Educational Impact and Leadership
Over eight decades, the MIER Group has graduated over 50,000 learners and currently meets the educational needs and aspirations of over 3,500 learners, from pre-school to doctoral levels.
The MIER Group is managed by a professional leadership team comprising experts in diverse fields such as education, liberal arts, science, and engineering. This leadership team, with a combined years of experience, includes former Vice Chancellors of State Universities. They have put in place a strategic plan to ensure that the MIER Group continues to build on its rich heritage to reach new heights, driven by its core values of Excellence, Diligence, and Innovation.

Late Prof. H.L. Gupta & Mrs. Shanti Gupta, the founders of the Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) Group, with a vision to provide quality education, established a small school in 1936
1981
Dr. Arun K. Gupta, a visionary leader and inspirational educator, founded MIER College of Education in 1981 and served as its inaugural Chairman. His enduring legacy of knowledge, creativity, and compassion continues to empower and inspire generations of learners and educators.
1999
MIET, founded in 1999, stands as the first private engineering college in Jammu and Kashmir, established with AICTE approval. It is a distinguished member of the esteemed MIER Group, dedicated to advancing technical education and fostering innovation.
